Tags, part 1

Posted on 16th January 2020

One of the things on my big Trello list of blog features is tags. It's a pretty common feature on websites and something that from the documentation looked like it wouldn't take too long to implement.

Well, I'm stuggling slightly, mainly because the changes to the site so far don't facilitate a simple copy and paste.

So, to spare my sanity I've broken the implentation down into 3 steps:

  1. Update my blog post template to render a list of the tags used on that article
  2. Make a page for all the tags, so you can click on "100DaysOfGatsby" for example, and see a list of all the articles that share that tag.
  3. Add a tag cloud, a visualisation of the tags used on the site and their popularity.

I suspect it won't be a huge amount of work, but breaking it up into manageable chunks is always my preferred way to do it. Thanks for reading and please look forward to the exciting conclusion of the Tags saga!
